2009 Challenger's Cup Round #1
I would have to say it was a hot day and only the boldest of challengers made it out for this round. Even though there were about 40 entries the racing was exciting as you can view from the truggy main event footage.
The format is 2 heats and main events using the drop gate starting procedure, and let me tell you the action is fun to watch.
In the sportsman buggy main event Darren Souza pretty much checked out at the start of the race and took the win with a commanding lead. Zach Youngberg put in a well deserved win taking the holeshot from the drop gate and basically ran a comfortable race for a first place finish.
The expert buggy main event started off a little light since there were a few late comers, but the gate dropped and Shon Wilcox took the lead until the end. It looked like Matt Hunt was going to challenge for the first place spot but a mechanical failure took him out of the race.
Congrats to all the challengers that came out to participate and get ready for the next round which will be under the lights.
The high flyer of the day was Carlos Macias doing a backflip that spanned about 30 feet and sticking the landing with his truggy, then Craig Clark followed the same line with his buggy. Of course my camera was off, but it was really cool to see.
