Hi,

I'm looking to get back into 8th scale buggies, and was going to go with an "E" setup. Has there been a class designated for these at Prairie City yet? I live in Roseville, so I'm really not interested in driving 2 hrs to race.

Regards,

Steve

Right now there is no seperate class. The electrics run with the Nitro's and have mandatory pit stops during the mains. It generally takes like 4 or 5 to make a class so if you can get that many together I'm sure they would run one.

Bring it on out, the class is just starting to get noticed and in a few months we should see it's own class at our local tracks. I for one enjoy nitro, but watching an electric car accelerate is way cool. I just got mine and I should have it ready in a month or so.

Come one come All The Big House Welcomes Electric 1/8th Scale Racing to its Program. Would be cool to see Buggy / Truggy Sportsman and Expert. Would Like to Have Eight Entries on The Big Track And we wil add another Class.  Round one of the Annual Challengers Cup is Coming June 27th And We would be Happy to Add The Class to the Roster. Let Me Know I'll Make it Happen

Ok,

so i'm now a proud owner of an RC8-E. I need to get some tires though. I want to try the AKA brand. What compounds work for you guys at Prairie City and say River Front?

Thanks for any help, definately looking forward to this!!

I would try these , Make sure you take notes...
1. AKA Grid Iron (Soft)
2. Pro-line Revolvers (Soft)
3. Pro-line Calibers (Soft)
4. Pro-line Crimefighters (Soft)
5. Losi Eclipse (Red)
6. Losi Reptile (Red)
7. AKA Crossbrace (Soft)
8. Panther Komodo Dragon 1 (Med-Soft)
9. Panther Komodo Dragon 2 (Med-Soft)
10. Panther Gator (Clay, Med-Soft)
11. Panther Boa (Clay, Med-Soft)

There are so many more tires out there, but this should get you started, and they usually are the easiest to find at good hobby shops.  You can call me at fthobbies.com (Fast Track Hobbies) on Tuesdays and Thursdays @ 916-725-1722 if you have any questions.

Later,
Joel

Thanks Joel,

the notepad is ready!  Does FT Hobbies carry the AKA tires you recommended?

Thanks,

Steve

We usually have everything in stock from the list I mentioned.  Were located in Citrus Heights, so if your close by come in and check it out.  If not, I would call to make sure we have what your looking for.

Have you been able to get the RC8e on the track yet?  If not, come out to the challenger's cup this weekend and get it dirty.  I should be there this weekend so if you need some setup help just ask.  I'll probably be walking around with a video camera, if not just ask someone and they can point me out.

The 8E is not ready yet. I'm still in need of the electronics, and of course tires!  I've met you before, and i'll look you up at FT or at the next race.

Cool, as for electronics, take a look at the Tekin stuff. I should be getting my tekin electronics in the next week or so.

Yea, the Tekin stuff is nice. I use their Motor/esc combo for my carpet cars (1/10, 1/12).

What lipo's are you looking at?  I'm not sure weather to go with 2- 2s, or 1- 4s battery.

I'm going to be using 2-2s side by side, if you can fit a 4s in their I would do that. It might make your configuration a little easier to take care of. Less clutter.

Less clutter means less wire which means less resistance and that all makes for more POWER

I think a 4s weighs less than 2- 2s lipos. Not sure what the difference is.  But definately keeping the wiring short and tidy would be a priority.

Do you guys punch holes in your tires? Or is it the rim? Or both? How do you do it, and why do you do it, and where on the wheel/tire do you do it?

Obvious newbie here!!!

Thanks,

Steve

Some Guys Do one or the other and some do both. In the Tire you use a good old Leather Punch.Placement of the holes is in the shape of a Plus sign +  put  one on each end.So imagine looking down at the wheel lying flat and draw a + Then place a whole in the center of the tire at each of the + ends. When done you should have Four Wholes evenly spaced around the tire.Use a Small Punch Bit When doing this.  For The Wheels if they don't already Have wholes in them. Then you will use a Body reamer or Drill Bit 1/8th or smaller in the same + Pattern. The Reason Wholes Are put in the Rims is to relieve the air pressure as the tires balloon up and down to allow for  More consistent Traction Allowing you to take the same line lap after lap. If the wholes are not there. when the tire balloons up it stays full of air longer and causes the car to handle poorly .Or when the tire compresses it stays collapsed like you put a vacuum up to it. Those are the Reasons for the wholes in the rims. Now the Tire Punch is used For Pressure Release Also. But it also allows for the Dirt That Becomes trapped in the tires from the rim whole to escape allowing the tire to stay Balanced and preserve The Foams.  In The Long Saves you money and Time. Also Beware When you Wash your tires The foams are now exposed and some foams will fall apart if they get wet so don't submerge your tires in watter .
