I'm curious to what peoples vehicles weigh, does the difference in weight really matter?

I was at CVR this past weekend for the North vs South and most of the newest vehicles were out on the track putting some good laps down, but the most astonishing part was how quickly these cars would accelerate out of the hole and how nimble they looked.  I understand that gearing and balance has a lot to do with it, but we weighed several cars to see how they stacked up.

Tyler Viks Kyosho MP9 ~7lbs 8oz
Jason Smiths MBX6 ~7lbs 6oz
Joel Hernandez 8ight ~ 7lbs 10oz
Levi Wyren's D8 ~ 8lbs 2oz
Joel Hernandez D8 ~ 7lbs 11oz

This is kind of interesting with both D8's weighed of mine and Levi's, we basically had the same setup and motor/pipe combo installed, but how can it be so much different?  What exactly happened during my build to make the car lighter than Levi's?  They were also clean.  My car seemed to have a little better punch out of the hole and looked a little more nimble, but Levi's seemed to be a little more stable, could this be weight difference?

So I'm doing an experiment to see how much I can shave off of the vehicle to obtain a more nimble car with a little better acceleration, but I'm just curious what other peoples cars weighed.

So I'm starting this thread to keep a log for reference if someone happens to be interested what a car should or could weigh.

When i get a chance i will weigh my car for you.

Are you measuring with the gas full or empty?

Also it would be nice to get 4 scales so you can see how well these cars are balanced. I think thats the key to obtaining the best all round handling.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, ya beat me to it , was going to ask the same thing. Going to weigh mine tomorrow at work with a half tank.

All the cars were weighed in full race ready fashion with half a tank of fuel.

Now did you and Levi have the exact same wheel tire combo when you weighed them or were the wheels off. That could also be a factor in the weight depending on tires and foams used.

I'll see if I can't get some weights on the Hyper and the Losi both with and without wheels.

Levi Wyren's D8 ~ 8lbs 2oz
Joel Hernandez D8 ~ 7lbs 11oz

Marty Lawrence 8ight-7lbs 7oz

Carlos Macias SX8-~7lbs 8oz

Grasshopper's D8 = 7lb. 13.68oz + 1/2 tank fuel

Dave D's 8ight - 7lb s 8oz    (124.8 oz)

That is kind of scary considering that I have the Axial .32 with the roto start on it plus it is still dirty from yesterday's run and it also has shock socks on it with made caked on the left rear. I could probably shave some more weight off of it by cleaning and then using the quickchenge motor mount and putting my v-spec into it  and use the Hyper Fly wheel (Lightened 32mm) and 3 shoe clutch(2 synthetic 1 Alluminum shoe) with Ofna hardened vented clutch bell. I also have 2 large fuel filters so if I changed that to one and I also have a Lipo and Voltage regulator( which I may not need if the servo's can handle 8.4 volts like it say's) that should shave enough weight off of it to make it lighter than Jason Smiths MBX6. New results in a couple of day's.

I guess RTR shock towers are lighter. Might be way to go but not as strong or as many adjustments.

I'll try to do the Hyper and the CRT today also if possible.

The weight on my car is accurate, but that was with a half tank of fuel. I also believe when I weighed Joel's eight he had half a tank. Tylers weight was taken on an empty tank, and I am not sure about Levi's.

In the future it may be more accurate to weigh them all dry and without tires, but then you get into electronics, motor etc.....

The fact remains that all the new gen cars are very close in weight than compared to just a few years ago. My MBX5R was several hundred grams heavier than my 6!!!
