I'm looking to put big bore shocks on a Kyosho ST-RR truggy, however the ones made by Kyosho do not have threaded shock bodies.  Is anyone aware of another brand that might fit and HAS the threaded bodies?  Joel, I know you used to run Kyosho so any suggestions?  Thanks!

I would think the Jammin 16mm big bores may work. You may have to change the upper shock stay but they should work.

You could also look into the TQ big bore shock set.... I'm pretty sure they will be the same length if not really close. The TQ Truggy if very similar to the STRR.. You can buy them at www.rcprocenter.net for $67.50.. the Kyosho springs fit as well.

Hey Marty.

I agree with both gentleman to which type of big bores to use, but the best price is probably the TQ shocks.  They also looked pretty good on Carlos's truggy in the video.

Anybody racing rescue this weekend?, How did the motor run Carlos?

I'll be there. Can't make it to the Lost Coast final. I may need some tires delivered to the track so if anyone is going (Rescue) please let me know.

Thanks for the info guys! Carlos, I looked at the TQ shock set you recommended. It's the same for their buggy and truggy, right? Just wanted to be sure I got the right set. Will I also need to get compatible upper shock mount bushings, or will it mount correctly to the ST-RR as-is?

Dave,

Yep he did a very radical port mod as well as a crank mod.. wait till you see the pictures!... I should have the videos posted soon. I've got to figure out where Joel wants to put them.

RCGeeezer,

Yes same shocks for both the TQ - Truggy and Buggy. As for the bushings I'm not sure. I can tell you that most of the parts for the Kyosho & TQ are very similar if not the same. .....Also the inside diameter on the TQ shock cap/eyelet mount is 7mm... the TQ bushing being slightly smaller at 6.97mm. I would think anything slightly smaller than 7mm would work. Hope this helps.

Thanks Carlos! Are the white springs that come with them soft, medium or hard? What color/type of springs are you currently using on your truggy? You've been a BIG help, I'm ordering a set today!!

I beleive the springs that come with the shocks are no longer white. They are now silver...and they are soft. On the truggy I've been testing with the Kyosho FL Green Springs all the way arround... 45wt Losi Shock Oil in the front, 35wt in the back. On the Buggy I'm running the Kyosho FL Green Springs in the front,  with the stock TQ silvers in the back. If I were you I would invest in a set of the Kyosho FL Green, and Blue Big Bore springs... Like I said the Kyosho springs are a tight fit on the TQ pre-load adjustment ring but, you can pop it up on there with a small flat screw driver, or do what Joel was doing when he was running TQ and just take a little of the color coating off inside the end with a dremmel tool.... Either way works. Glad I could help!

Carlos, I spoke with the guy at RCProCenter's website and he says that the TQ shocks are just a bit shorter overall than the Kyosho, but he's running them and uses the OFNA/JAMMIN lower shock end pieces to gain a bit of length. He also says that the OFNA big bore springs fit very well, he's even tried the LOSI springs and they also fit. Good to hear since I can get 4 OFNA springs for less than 2 Kyosho springs. I'm going to get a set of the OFNA's in medium and hard and give them a try. What do you think?

Sounds like a good plan to me. That's what I like about RC there is no single right way to do something... there are several ways to get a goal accomplished. You may know one way, I may know another way ect... and as long as we keep sharing information we'll keep this thing going. There are several things I've had to learn the hard way.. as with most things in life, but if we keep sharing info as we are we might be able to elleminate some of that, and some of the cost.

Heck that's what EmpireRC is all about.  Good info Geezer thanks.!

I was running the blue springs on all four corners on my Jammin and it handled great till I hit the wall at Paradise. Then I ran the grey up front and it got better.

How did it do after the 6"steel post at Redding.

You going to go to the Breakout race on the 25th Marty

I'm supposed to work on the 25th but I'd really like to go. I missed Rescue last weekend because of the snow and have no desire to run in Reno any more.

Marty, If I might ask why did you jump from the blue (hard) springs all the way to the grey (soft) springs? Did you try the silver (medium), and if so how did they work? Carlos, I completely agree that this EmpireRC forum is an exceptional way for us to share ideas and benefit from each others trials and tribulations. How's the baby watch coming along?

I did try the silver when I first built the truck, felt way too stiff even with adjusting the preload so I went with the standard Bradley X2 setup. I broke a front shock shaft and mangled a blue spring in Paradise and only had grey to run in Reno the next day (8 hours later by the time we got home) so I tried them. They (grey) gave me more cornner speed, steering, and a much softer "feel" on the track, the truck seemed planted more.

Marty, if silver was too stiff then how did you end up using the blue springs which are supposed to be the hardest/stiffest? I'm not familiar with the Bradley X2 setup...please give details as I'm trying to understand your tuning process?

Carlos, better bank some of those hours of sleep...you'll be needing them soon buddy!!
